Honey-Lemon Grilled Halibut Recipe

One of the best eating fish and my favorite to make is wild caught Pacific Halibut. Every summer many tourists and anglers flock to Alaska to fill their freezers for the year with fresh halibut and salmon. Halibut has mild flavored, healthy white flaky meat that is full of Omega 3 Fatty Acids, high in protein, and can be made a variety of ways. One of our favorites is this grilled halibut recipe.

Honey-Lemon Grilled Halibut Recipe

Here’s tried and true grilled halibut recipe. This halibut recipe can be used on cod and rockfish as well!

There is nothing quite like catching wild fish, preparing it on your own and enjoying for months after a fishing trip. One of the most important things to remember when cooking any fish is to not overcook the meat. Halibut especially can dry out quickly when over cooked and become rubbery and inedible.

Ingredients:

Small mixing bowl
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons honey
1/2-tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1-teaspoon black pepper
½ tablespoon minced garlic
1 pound of fresh halibut

Directions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in mixing bowl.
  2. Portion your halibut fillets in 3-6 ounce pieces. You will want your fillets about an inch and a half thick. Any thicker and the halibut will dry out on the outside and be undone on the inside. Roll fillets in the mixture and set aside.
  3. Bring pan or grill to high heat. Sear halibut for about 90- seconds per side, turn down heat and cook an additional 1-2 minutes per side. Fish is done when it flakes apart with a fork.
  4. Serve with a drop of extra lemon juice if desired.

Our Guided Halibut Fishing Trips

On our halibut trips you can expect to go home with 50-100 pounds of fresh halibut and salmon processed and packaged! That means numerous meals and memories shared with family and friends over the winter.
